Better than we ever expected!!

We booked for a pool garden view apartment and were placed high enough to have a view of the ocean. The room was so clean and comfortable with modern furnishing and comfortable bed. The location was GREAT central to everything with a stunning beach only a minutes walk away. Staff were so happy to help as soon as you walked in with tips on what’s good in the area and just made sure you were happy in every way with your stay. I’m quite picky and I looked at EVERY hotel this one was a winner and great value. We were happy to spend the day lazing around the place instead of going out! Thanks to Duncan & Andre for a great stay.

Tropfest Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise is the only place on the Gold Coast where you can live the excitement of Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival.

Each February, the global micro-movie phenomenon is beamed live to the big screen in Surfers Paradise from its homebase at The Domain in Sydney.

Surfers Paradise replicates Tropfest’s groovy atmosphere with bean bags on the grass (Circle on Cavill), a relaxed picnic blanket vibe and live music from Gold Coast bands in between the films.

Sixteen finalist shorts from Australia’s best emerging young filmmakers are platformed at the event and often feature appearances from established film and TV stars making this event a high profile event not to be missed.

Limited to just seven minutes in length, the films are masterclasses in efficient entertainment, ranging from snappy comedies to twist-ending thrillers and poignant tone pieces.

Maldives Gold Coast Main Beach holiday accommodation review

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was newly renovated. The apartment was a nice size with complete kitchen facilities and a washing machine/dryer. The lounge area was comfortably done up and in a modern design. And the view was incredible – we were facing Main Beach and the lounge area had a full glass panel which permitted a great view from anywhere in the apartment and also made the place bright and cheery with natural sunlight in the day.

Duncan was most professional and helpful right from the beginning – answering our emails promptly, booking our taxi from the airport and confirming all the necessary details. On the day we arrived, we discovered linen/pillow was provided for the sofa bed for our toddler and the air con worked well. Duncan was very knowledgeable about getting around and gave us a lot of information, he helping us book tickets to the various Worlds and with transportation as well.

Location wise – great for families with young children. The Main Beach area is patronized mainly by families – likely due to the proximity to Sea World. So you will find that its quieter at night without the buzz of Surfer’s Paradise. Maldives Resort itself is within walking distance to lots of eateries, supermarket, convenience stores. Many of the restaurants here are kid friendly, with kids eat free promotions and most have kid menus. You could also walk to Sea World – its about a 20 minute walk or 5 minutes by taxi.

A small improvement that could have been made would be the toiletries provided. Given that this wasn’t exactly an expensive establishment, we weren’t concerned as we had our own. A small amount was provided and we were told that any additional supplies are available at the counter.

Otherwise, this is a pleasant place to stay in the Gold Coast and we would recommend this to anyone, particularly those traveling with young children.

Overall, Maldives Resort was the perfect place for a short or long stay and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Main Beach accommodation is very peaceful yet close to the buzz if you want it. The beach is beautiful and clean with life guards and flags in easy reach.

SkyPoint Climb

Australia’s highest external building walk has now opened on the Gold Coast!

In 42.7 seconds you’ll be zoomed up in one of Australia’s fastest elevators to Level 77.  From there 298 stairs will guide climbers up to the summit of the region’s most iconic residential tower, Q1, where 270 metres above sea level  you’ll have a 360 degree, birdseye view, of the Gold Coast region.

The Q1 building itself is the 25th tallest building in the world at 322.5 metres high, and SkyPoint is Australia’s only beachside Observation Deck and a great place to relax after completing the climb. Friends and family can watch their loved ones on SkyPoint Climb through the glass roof panel.

The entire climb experience lasts 90 minutes from beginning to end. The experience also includes a commemorative climber certificate, SkyPoint Climb cap and group photograph.

Summer Beach & Water Safety

Beach and Water Safety

Our Gold Coast beaches are world-class with kilometre’s of golden sand and fantastic swimming and surfing opportunities. But if you’re planning on spending some beach time (especially Main Beach) on your next Gold Coast holiday it’s important to be aware of some water safety basics. (beach safety tips provided by the Gold Coast city council website)

NEVER:

Swim alone or surf at beaches not patrolled by Lifeguards or Lifesavers

Bathe outside the red and yellow flags that mark safe swimming areas

Bathe directly after a meal or under the influence of alcohol

Bathe when the beach is closed. (Observe the sign “Danger- Reserve closed to bathing” and the red flag)

Bathe when there are no safety flags

Panic if caught in a current or undertow, but raise one arm straight up and float until help arrives

Struggle if seized with a cramp, but raise one arm for help, float and keep the affected part of the body still

Go out far when a yellow flag is flying- it means the surf is dangerous

Bathe if unsure of safe conditions, but seek advice of the nearest Lifeguard

Struggle against a rip or current, but swim diagonally across it.

ALWAYS:

Swim between the red & yellow flag on patrolled beaches

Read the Flags and Safety Signs and understand what they mean before entering the water.

And, don’t forget to ‘Slip-Slop-Slap’ and drink plenty of water on those hot summer days!
